Located in the golfing hotbed of East Lothian, between the classic links courses of North Berwick and Muirfield, the Renaissance is a Tom Doak design and opened in 2007.

Some trees were kept near a few greens and fairways to add to the strategy needed by players to navigate the course.
Renaissance has been modified over the years as three new holes were added along the coastline after working out a land swap deal with the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers and Muirfield Golf.
The course as it sits for this years Scottish Open will be played at 7,282 yards and to a par of 70.
Firm links turf conditions make the course play shorter than the yardage and players will need to navigate the wind, bunkers an fescue grass in order to hold the trophy at the end of the week.
Scottish Open - Players To Watch The 2025 Genesis Scottish Open boasts one of the best fields of the tour season with many of the top players in the world going across the pond in preparation for next week’s Open Championship.
A combination event hosted by both the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, the Genesis Scottish Open has the the top 75 players from both tours playing at the Renaissance this week.
Due to it being a mixed tour event and players wanting to get some preparation in for next week’s Open Championship in Northern Ireland, the majority of the top players in the world are in this weeks field.
Scottie Scheffler looks to keep another dominant year going as he is back in Scotland for links golf.
Scheffler noted this week how his thinking needs to change if he misses a green stating, "You get over here and I miss a green, and I'm going to go over there, assess the lie," he said.
"Sometimes I may get a really clean lie and sometimes I may get a thick lie, and with a thick lie I'll have to do a more traditional open face with a 60, play a bunker shot.
Again, a clean lie, and I may be using an 8-iron to pitch up the slope or maybe a 50-degree depending how much pitch there is in the slope.
Over here, there's just more options, and it's just a little bit of a different test than some of the tests we see at.
" Rory McIlroy looks to find his championship form that he displayed earlier this season when he won three times.
The 2023 Scottish Open champion tied for fourth last year and talked in his press conference getting back to a course he has had to learn how to play over the years.
"I don't think I started out too well here but I have learned how to play the course a little bit better.
“Obviously I had that great finish in 2023, then played well again last year, so I am looking forward to getting out there tomorrow.
