Hollywood & Entertainment‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ Devours July 4th Box Office At $320 MillionByMark Hughes, Contributor

AuthorJul 06, 2025, 12:21pm EDTDirector Gareth Edward’s super-sized sequel Jurassic World: Rebirth is besting expectations as it devours the July 4th holiday weekend box office, closing in on $320 million in worldwide receipts and a $148 million domestic opening

Reptiles rule in "Jurassic World: Rebirth. "Source: Universal Starring Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali have enough d star wattage that leading a marquee brand Jurassic World looks the sure thing of the summer, Jurassic World By The Numbers Coming into opening weekend, it looked Jurassic World: Rebirth would be another billion dollar earner beloved by fans of the series, which has landed A- or A grades from viewers via Cinemascore for the last three franchise outings

That would typically mean we could expect a 3x final multiplier or better, so we’d then expect a $320 million opening weekend to translate into at least $960 million and more ly north of a billion bucks

But with an unexpected B grade, the second lowest of the entire franchise, Jurassic World: Rebirth will need to maintain momentum and international turnout to overcome mixed or negative word of mouth and strike near $1 billion territory

At this point, it’s possible that $960 million figure could wind up on the higher end of its possible outcomes, with a sub-$950 million final cume now looking possible

ForbesWill ‘Superman’ Fly High Or Stay Grounded This Summer Movie Season

By Mark Hughes Not that anyone expects Jurassic World: Rebirth to fall of a cliff or risk being a flop – there’s no realistic chance of that happening, as even a 2. 5x final multiplier gets it to $800 million

But the fact we’re even talking risks after such a huge opening weekend is telling

Maybe word of mouth and reviews won’t matter, if the sheer spectacle makes it worthy of price of admission for main audiences, and if the loyal fanbase shows up for repeat viewings

MORE FOR YOU I’m expecting a roughly 2. 7x final multiplier and a finishing worldwide total of $865+ million, with high-end right at $900 million and low end of perhaps $850 million

But everything depends on next weekend’s figures after the arrival of the first major box office threat, and the bigger the box office impact, the faster Jurassic World’s plans for a billion dollar summer may go extinct

Can Jurassic World Rule Summer Season

Not helping matters is the fact WBD’s and DC Studio’s rebooted superhero cinematic world kicks off in -action next weekend with Superman expected to gross $120-150 million in North America, hoping to overcome its own brand baggage but so far soaring high on fantastic trailers, tons of buzz, and a flying dog wearing a cape who looks an instant favorite for child audiences

With Fantastic Four: First Steps arriving two weeks later, the super-combo from DC and Marvel will significantly eat into Jurassic World: Rebirth’s demographics if those two films’ fanbases show up as expected and main audiences score them strong enough

ForbesBox Office Predictions Summer 2025: ‘Superman,’ ‘Jurassic Park’ And MoreBy Mark Hughes Watch Superman’s Cinemascore on Friday night for a good preview of things to come – if it’s an A- or higher, then the pressure is on Rebirth, and an A- or better for Fantastic Four: First Steps would suggest to me that the dinosaurs are destined to give up the summer crown to one of the challengers after all

While I do still think Jurassic World: Rebirth has good odds of a win as the summer 2025 box office champ, and I am not trying to diminish its terrific opening weekend, I think the cheering is distracting from the signs that this could wind up finishing below loftier expectations even though it will surely still be a blockbuster among the year’s top-5 and definitely among the top-10

Jurassic World: Rebirth should still stomp it’s way to $900 million in global sales by the end of its theatrical run

But with that worrisome B grade from audiences and bare-majority positive reviews meaning it’s ly front-loaded and will rely on summer walk-up and the sheer draw of the brand for decent second and third weekend holds

Meanwhile, the Jurassic international foot will loom large enough to help with the burden even in an underperforming situation
