I was able to catch the film a couple days early thanks to a partnership between Amazon Prime and Fandango. You can read my review of James Gunn’s first DCU film right here.
Admittedly, I was not particularly impressed by Superman. It felt strangely generic for a movie that needed to be a soaring triumph.
It also felt too much Gunn’s other superhero movies, but with less heart and fewer memorable characters.
I maintain that Gunn would be the perfect director for a Justice Gang movie where his sense of humor and quirky direction would shine – but someone else should have taken the director’s chair for Superman.
In any case, the question you’re here for today is whether or not the movie has end-credits scenes. The answer: Yes. Two, in fact.
There’s one brief mid-credits scene and one slightly longer post-credits scene. Before I explain what happens in them, let me answer your next question: Are they worth sticking around for.
Okay, that’s actually difficult to answer. If you loved the movie, by all means stick around. The mid-credits scene is very adorable and the post-credits scene is funny.
If you didn’t love the movie, there’s nothing in either scene that sets up a future movie. The scene that does that takes place at the end of the movie just before the credits.
Okay, onto spoiler territory. The mid-credits scene is more of a moment.
You may have seen this picture already:Superman and KryptoCredit: Warner Bros MORE FOR YOU Well, this is the mid-credits scene except instead of sitting next to each other on the moon, Krypto is giving Superman a big hug.
It’s, as I said, adorable. It also makes me wish this entire movie had actually been Superman & Krypto, a story a man trying to get his dog back without all the other overstuffed plot mechanics.
The post-credits scene (spoilers again) takes place in Metropolis after the cataclysmic events partly destroy the city.
Superman is standing next to Mister Terrific looking at building that still has a crack running through it, and Superman makes a joke how it’s not quite perfect.
Mister Terrific, who is not a humorous man but is very funny because of it, gets very huffy over Superman’s jibes and storms off. It’s a bit longer than the mid-credits scene, but that’s all it is.
I think the Supergirl cameo would have fit better here. And that’s all you need to know the end-credits scenes in Superman. I hope you enjoy the movie more than I did.
